NDIS
Pricing & Funding
What sets the price of a support, the charges that surprise people, and what a fair service agreement spells out.
The NDIA publishes a document called the Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits. It sets the maximum a provider can charge for each support, and it is updated at least once a year, usually from 1 July. Providers can charge less. They cannot charge more.
What changes the hourly price
- When the support happens. Weekday daytime is the base rate. Weekday evening, Saturday, Sunday and public holiday rates step up from there.
- What kind of support it is. A support worker, a support coordinator and a behaviour support practitioner sit at very different price points.
- Where you live. Remote and very remote areas carry a loading, because getting a worker there costs more.
- Ratio. One worker supporting three people is charged at a share of the rate, not the full rate each.
Charges people are surprised by
-
Provider travel
A provider can claim for time travelling to you, within published limits. It should be in your service agreement before it appears on an invoice.
-
Non-face-to-face time
Report writing, plan preparation and similar work can be claimable where it is agreed with you in advance and directly relates to your support.
-
Short notice cancellations
Cancel inside the notice period and the provider may claim up to 100% of the agreed price. The notice period must be in your agreement.
What we do about it
Our service agreements state the rate for every support, the cancellation notice period and whether travel is charged, before you sign anything. If a price limit changes mid-plan we will write to you and explain the effect on your budget rather than simply changing the invoice.
Where to check for yourself
The current Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits document is published free at ndis.gov.au. If an invoice from any provider — including us — does not look right, you are entitled to ask for it to be explained.
This page is a plain-language summary written by Avion Care, not legal or official advice. The NDIA sets and changes the rules; always check ndis.gov.au for the current position, or speak to your Local Area Coordinator or an independent advocate.
