Our Services
Supported Independent Living (SIL)
Support in your home so you can run your own household — with as much or as little help as that takes.
Usually funded from: Core Supports — Assistance with Daily Life (SIL quote)
Supported Independent Living pays for the help you need with day-to-day tasks in the home you live in. It is not housing — the roof is funded separately — it is the people. SIL can be 24/7 in a shared home, or a few hours a day in your own place. The right answer depends on what you want your week to look like.
What this support includes
- Support with cooking, cleaning, laundry and shopping
- Help managing bills, appointments and the household calendar
- Personal care where it is part of your daily routine
- Overnight support — sleepover or active, depending on need
- Support to build the skills to do more of it yourself over time
- Coordination with housemates, families and other providers
Who it tends to suit
- People moving out of the family home for the first time
- People leaving hospital, rehabilitation or a group home
- People in a shared home who want their support arrangements changed
- People with 24/7 support needs who want to stay in their own home
Common questions
If yours is not here, ask us — we would rather answer it than have you guess.
Does SIL pay my rent?
No. SIL funds support workers. Rent, bills and groceries come out of your own income, exactly as they would for anyone else. If you need accessible housing, that is a separate conversation about Specialist Disability Accommodation.
Do I have to live with other people?
No. Shared living spreads overnight support across several people and is often what makes 24/7 support affordable within a plan, but individual SIL exists and some people are funded for it. We will be honest with you about what a plan is likely to cover.
How is SIL funded?
Through a quote. We assess how many support hours the household needs across a week, including overnight, and submit a roster of care to the NDIA. It is more paperwork than other supports and it takes longer to approve — we will keep you posted through it.
What if I do not get on with a housemate?
Tell us early. We mediate where that helps, adjust rosters where it does not, and support a move where it comes to that. Nobody should be stuck.
